Mathieu Beauséjour: Three Internationales

Mathieu Beauséjour

15 Jan - 12 Feb 2005

Mathieu Beauséjou

Taking the communist anthem, written in 1871, as a starting point from which to explore strategies for revolutionary activity Three Internationales adopts all three exhibition spaces for Beauséjour to present his own brand of stylised rebellion.

Space will provide the setting for the first showing of Beauséjour's new work, filmed in Canada House, London. The film captures a single cellist reciting the Internationale to an absent or vacated audience. Offering this and other material to the audience, the artist will further encourage interaction and commitment to revolutionary thought by providing excerpts of the Internationale in printed form for visitors to distribute outside the gallery as well as whisky to fuel the revolutionary thought within.

The exhibition marks the end of Beauséjour's six month residency at Space and is part of an ongoing program in association with the Canada Council for the Arts and the Canadian High Commission, London.
