Strangers With Angelic Faces is an explorative project supported by the Akbank Centre, the largest cultural arts centre in Istanbul, where the show toured in May 2006. The relationship is one that highlights important elements relating to the theme of the show but also emphasises Spaces's commitment to the production of exciting cross cultural exhibitions and collaborations.

The exhibition features the work of prominent Turkish artists including video installations by Ali Demirel, Seza Paker, Sener Ozmen & Erkan Ozgen in an experimental use of SPACE’s exhibition rooms which sees Neriman Polat’s video work showing in the building’s toilets and Denizhan Ozer exhibiting in a renovated storeroom. Pinar Yolacan and Gul Ilgaz’s photographic works offer an alternative medium, as does Denizhan Ozer’s synchronised slide installation and Serkan Ozkaya’s floor based installation that covers the entire floor throughout the whole rear of the building. Dryden Goodwin’s unfolding monitor piece ‘Reveal‘ and Shona Illingworth’s and Simon Faithfull’s video projections complete the exciting combination of British and Turkish artists whose practices work towards capturing those elements of the unknown and unrecognised that make the stranger such a compelling aspect of living in increasingly cosmopolitan and diverse human topographies.

Strangers With Angelic Faces has been supported by the Arts Council England, the British Council and the Akbank Centre, Istanbul. The exhibition was made possible but the assistance and support of Epson, Balik Arts, Arcola Theatre, Mites, The Dolphin and Vahib Solicitors.
