The Architecture Foundation, in partnership with SPACE, presents Legacy Plus: Interim Uses and East London’s Olympic Legacy
2nd – 4th March 2010
Legacy Plus is a three-day symposium that takes a creative and propositional look at the transition phase of London’s 2012 Olympic Legacy — constructively exploring the role that temporary structures and interim uses can play in influencing the future evolution of East London, both in and around the Olympic site.
As the newly established Olympic Park Legacy Company gears up to develop its vision, Legacy Plus will bring international architecture practices and urbanists together with London residents and key players in the Olympic Host Boroughs, to look at the opportunities offered by vacant sites to provide identity for the area through inspired temporary structures. The symposium opens with Legacy Now, SPACE’s annual exploration of the Olympics’ pending impact upon East London’s cultural industries and residents in an afternoon’s open dialogue between stakeholders, policy makers and creative practitioners. Through a combination of public dialogues, professional workshops and site visits, Legacy Plus will go on to examine how this interim period, before and after the games, might be used as a progressive and experimental planning tool to constructively inform the character of the permanent legacy, and the future of East London.
