Bow Wireless

| Bow Wireless |
July 2004Bow Wireless formed part of Bow Festival 2004, an artist-led public art event in London E3, co-ordinated by SPACE. The Bow Wireless project comprised of five new commissions which integrated innovative and socially engaged practice and worked with AmbientTV, Ben Scott, Paula Roush, Melanie Clifford, Shu Lea Cheang and Rich Air 2030. Through the Bow Festival, the Bow Wireless project aimed to bring this developing technology to local people so that they could take the opportunity to learn about it in an accessible way. During the festival, a wireless network was set up in Roman Road, built with inexpensive off-the-shelf components. Nodes or relay transmitters were sited on lampposts along the street market and the network was accessible to anyone who had a wireless card in their computer and wass in the vicinity of the market place. An information area offered accessible information about wireless technology. Wireless workshops held at SPACE followed the event to continue life long learning and to leave a legacy in the community. |
