Frances Holliss

Information: Frances is an architect and an academic. Developing an interest in self-build while studying architecture at UCL, she jointly set up and ran a carpentry and furniture-making business for five years. She has since worked in a number of architectural practices including Cambridge Design and Edward Cullinan Architects. She is a senior lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Spatial Design at London Metropolitan University, currently carrying out doctoral research into the buildings in which people both live and work. She has a particular interest in, and knowledge of, artists’ studio houses and the contemporary phenomenon of live/work, work/live. She has lived in Hackney for twenty-five years with on-going involvement in a number of local community organisations.
