The White Building is a centre for art, technology and sustainability.

Run by SPACE, the building has studio spaces for practicing artists, a residency space, an event space, and Crate Brewery & Pizzeria.

The aims for the building are to support, showcase and sustain the existing creative economy of the area, alongside international practice - maintaining the profile of the area as a leading creative cluster.

By engaging local residential and school communities The White Building aims to ensure art and artists are at the heart of future development in the area and the legacy of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

///// About /////

SPACE was selected to set up and run a venue to house and showcase leading creative work from the area and around the world. Rooted in Hackney Wick and Fish Island's role as a centre of innovation, industry and creativity, SPACE's vision for the building is to be a centre for creative practice focussed on the intersection between art, technology & sustainability.

The canal-side, 2 storey, approx. 7000ft2 former print warehouse houses 5 studios, a large Residency Studio, Event Space and café located in Queen's Yard on White Post Lane.

The building provides a showcase for artists for both local residents and visitors to the area. By profiling the creativity of this unique area we aim to help secure the creative future of the area.

A wide range of visitors use the café and attend talks, events, showcases, workshops, screenings, open studios and outdoor projects.

The White Building launched in June 2012, with a weekend event showcasing work from SPACE residency artists and a keynote speech from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

The canal-side, 2 storey, approx. 7000ft2 former print warehouse houses 5 studios, plus a large Residency Studio, an Event Space and a café. SPACE’s goal during the Olympics was to demonstrate the importance of arts and artists, particularly those in the area, alongside world-class athletes. It will provide a showcase for artists, helping to secure the creative future of the area, and will seek to engage with local residents.
